TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Kevin Woosley created a magical atmosphere featuring “A Night at the Piano” at the Moody Music Concert Hall.
At The University of Alabama, The College of Arts & Sciences, School of Music 83rd Program of the 2018-2019 Season was a piano concert, featured Dr. Kevin Woosley on piano at the Concert Hall of the Moody Music Building. The event was held on Tuesday, February 5th, 2019, from 7:30 p.m.-9:15 p.m.
He was joined by many other musicians for a night of stylistically varied music. Including music that is classical, jazz, video game, Disney, and rock (among others), this concert featured something for lovers of all types of music.
The program had ten movements altogether with a short intermission after the first six. It started with the “Bad/Smooth Criminal” from Michael Jackson (1958-2009) and the second performance was the well-known song from Ronnie Rogers, the “Dixieland Delight”, which was familiar for the students who attended the event. After that, the “Zelda Medley” by Koji Kondi was played on the piano by Kevin Woosley. The fourth movement was different because we welcomed Kelli Roper at the stage who was playing clarinet, which made a change in the performance.
After the “How Far I’ll Go”, we could listen to the highlight of the night, called “The Masque of the Red Death” by Kevin Woosley. Everybody got the sheet music of this part before the concert so people could follow up easily, which made the performance more interesting. This movement created a very dramatic atmosphere, including dark, black patterned photos mixed with red, creepy elements like devil and skeletons.
The brief intermission made a difference in the program, because after the little break, we could welcome a band at the stage, and the concert reached its peak and got louder and louder as it moved closer to the end.
“Overall, the concert was super fun and interesting. It helped me open and change my perspective toward music.” - said Morgan Liberto, a student of the University of Alabama.
