TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - At The Crimson Choice Awards, they award several talented student-athletes and celebrate their success.
This year's event was held on Tuesday, April 16th, 2019, from 5:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m at the Bama Theatre. The CCA host this year was a former student from The University of Alabama, Laura Rutledge, who commentated the event and created a very magical atmosphere at the Theatre for the night.
The doors opened at 5:30 p.m., started with a reception and dinner. The show itself started at 7 p.m. with a little introduction video, summarizing the year of the student-athletes at the University. Then, they introduced several videos made about every nominees for every awarded category. Usually they have three or four participants competing for an award every year.
Besides athletes, they showed the appreciation for every individual who helped with their work through the past year to these athletes can reach their goal.
The Competitive Excellence Award went to the 5,000-meter Crew of Gilbert Kigen, Vincent Kiprop, Alfred Chelanga and Conner Thompson, and the Male Heart of Service went to Brock Love. Female Heart of Service award winner was Shea Mahoney.
Concerning athletes, the award for the Male A-Day Athlete of the Year went to Tua Tagovailoa football player, and in the female category, Kiana Winston was the winner in 2019. Men’s Team of the Year went to the Alabama Track&Field, and the golf team was the winner on the females' side. Female Paul W. Bryant Student-Athlete Award went to Andie Daniell (tennis), and Robert Howard (swimming) was the winner of the boy's award with his N.C.A.A. and S.E.C. success this year.
The help of the coaching staff necessary for these athletes to compete the best way they can, so - as every year - they give awards to appreciate their work as well. Women’s Sport Coach of the Year went to Mic Potter (golf), and Men’s Sport Coach of the Year goes to Dan Waters (Alabama track).
They also gave out a prize for the best clothes, and people could vote on Twitter for their favourite outfit of the night. More funny videos were played throughout the event, we were able to see how athletes would perform in different kind of sports, which is not their own.
“I really enjoyed the event. It was an opportunity to see other athletes and teams achievements and hang out with them.” - said Kalia Antoniou, a swimmer and student at The University of Alabama.
